The theatre has now closed due to restructuring at the School of Education resulting in the closure of the English and Drama subject area, and thus the BA (Ed) degree ending over 50 years of theatrical tradition at the School.
St. Luke's Theatre served the English and Drama subject area as both a teaching space and a venue for student and professional productions. It was centrally located on the School of Education campus of the University of Exeter. The space is currently used as a seminar room, and for rehearsal by the School of Drama and Music.
The theatre seated 100 people on tiered bleacher seating, or up to 150 in a thrust stage arrangement. The space was much like a studio, but with very high ceiling and a modest proscenium. It was fully equipped for lighting and sound, had a 10m fly tower and a mid-stage trap to the basement.
It seems likely that the theatre will be converted into office space in the near future. |
